Reason magazine’s June issue features a cover story in three parts titled Experiments in Libertarian Living. The topics covered are the Honduran free cities, the Western Australian secessionist movement, and New Hampshire’s Free State Project. The feature on the Free State Project mostly focuses on political activities and state government, with a sole mention of Keene noting favorably the impact of Robin Hooding on the small city.
The merrymaking isn’t limited to the legislature. In Keene there is a vogue for Robin Hooding, a form of activism where people monitor routes of parking enforcement officers and place coins in on-street parking meters nearing expiration. The practice is driving local officials nuts but winning praise from residents. The Free Keeners have seen a steady stream of small donations to the cause of rescuing unlucky car owners via their website.
